![]() Imagine your browser sends a bunch of requests, and the server replies with a bunch of responses, batched together in a specific order. With TCP, packets of data get transmitted in batches. But why exactly? We approach the so-called "Head-of-line blocking" problem. Years of acceptance made us view it as something natural - the network is bad, so pages load slowly or don't load at all. Even modern standards like 5G won't protect you from these nuisances - try riding an elevator, for example. ![]() ![]() Step out of your house into the wilderness of 4G, LTE, and mobile data in general, and you'll inevitably run into such issues as weak signal, slow connection and whatnot. There's a catch, though: they've been doing it well under the near-perfect conditions of stable broadband connection. I'm sure all these acronyms at least ring a bell, and that's because they've been around for ages, doing their job well. Head-Of-Line BlockingĪs mentioned, for the longest time we were at the mercy of TCP transport layer protocol and other protocols that we working over it - TLS, SSL, HTTP. I'll give a couple of examples why QUIC is superior to its predecessors. The fact that it was developed rather recently and not in the times of digital dinosaurs, means that it also solves several crucial problems that weren't obvious at all in the days of yore. There are other ways - other protocols - to do that, you probably at least heard of the good old TCP, which has been predominantly used on the web over the last years and even decades.Ĭompared to TCP, QUIC shows better speed, reliability, and provides better encryption. Simply speaking, QUIC serves as a protocol to transmit packets of data between servers or between a server and a client. "Ok, now he's just messing with me", you should be thinking. So, QUIC is a (relatively) new transport layer network protocol. So let's take one small step back to then make two steps forward. To be able to understand the intricacies of DNS-over-QUIC, it's only logical that first you should understand what QUIC is. Just in case you need to brush up on what DNS is and how it can be used to boost your online privacy, check out this article from almost exactly two years ago. I'll kick off this article by explaining what DoQ is, then I'll cover its advantages compared to the alternatives, talk about whether there are any drawbacks or not, and finally give you a step-by-step instruction how to set it up. AdGuard DNS is the first public DNS resolver to support the new DNS-over-QUIC protocol! We believe that DNS-over-QUIC (or simply DoQ) is the future of DNS encryption and we're extremely proud be the first to present you with the opportunity to try it out.

![]() It manages to make the entire cast look kind of unappealing - which is actually an amazing achievement given how attractive Margot Robbie normally looks. I mean, I'm a DC fan, I even own a couple of Birds of Prey trades and I don't recognise anyone in that picture (yes, I can guess who certain characters are but it's not immediately obvious). But the poster I saw most often this one - is a number of weird choices all mashed together. I was very much aware of this movie because of the poster campaign that I saw in lots of places (I live in London for reference). People in my office who never watch comic book movies were going to see Joker long after it opened. It's kind of the reverse of what happened with Joker which had some buzz initially (combined with inane fake controversy) then did well and then did even better due to good word of mouth. ![]() And one of the reasons why few people are seeing it is no-one is talking about it. If ridden, ensure any mud is removed from the areas where the tack is fitted to prevent rubbing and discomfort. ![]() Try not to overgroom un-rugged horses as this may strip the coat of the natural oils and reduce its waterproofing abilities. Not rugging an overweight horse will help them lose weight naturally. This can result in the horse putting on excess weight all year round, which is worrying as weight gain increases risk of laminitis. Horses naturally lose weight during the winter months, but we can override this process by feeding them too much and over-rugging. A deficiency can lead to reduced bone strength, however an hour a day exposure without a rug in bright, dry conditions, should be sufficient in minimising this risk. Inappropriate rugging may cause the horse to sweat, resulting in irritation and rubbing and will prevent sunlight reaching the horse’s skin, limiting the production of vitamin D2. ![]() Many horses, especially breeds such as the native pony and cob types, can adapt well to winter weather and easily cope without a rug when they have adequate forage and access to shelter. Their coat also produces natural oils to help keep them waterproof. Horses don’t feel the cold like we do and naturally grow a thick coat in winter to keep them warm. When considering rugging your horse, it is important not make this decision based on how you feel. ![]() offers evolutionary, neurological, and even slightly philosophical reasons for optimism” – Forbes “Most readers will turn to the last page not only buoyed by hope but also aware of the sources and benefits of that hope.” – Booklist “Insightful, Oliver Sacks–y first book.” – Village Voice (Summer Book Picks) “Lively, conversational…A well-told, heartening report from neuroscience’s front lines.” – Kirkus I'm optimistic about that.” – Richard Stengel, Time “If you read her story, you'll get a better grip on how we function in it. Suzuki did offer, however, that the idea of a new Katana, while ever present within the company, really gained momentum after the “Katana 3.0 Concept” by Italian designer Rodolfo Frascoli was presented at EICMA in the fall of 2017. It’s such an important model for Suzuki, for sure there were strong opinions on what form a new Katana could take.” But it was a dead end. ![]() What I’m after is the story behind that decision. To which I replied: “Respectfully, I know you did, the bike is right there. What followed was what I feared: a long silence, heads turning, then a long discussion in Japanese between the entire panel of Suzuki’s staff, and finally the answer: “We made the decision to produce this new Katana.” Still, I felt these are relevant questions in this particular case and as soon as the technical presentation ended, I asked. Manufacturers want to talk about the bike they’re presenting, not about the one they could have done instead, and they’re not always inclined to reveal internal talks. Why did they choose to revive the Katana as a re-skinned GSX-S1000? Considering the legendary status of the model within Suzuki’s history-I’d say it’s only second to the GSX-R’s-wouldn’t it deserve the full-replica treatment? Mostly, I wanted to know about the infighting between the two camps within Suzuki, I wanted to know which argument was offered by each side and why this direction was ultimately chosen. I really wanted to know more about the styling decisions. But ask about something more complex and suddenly their English becomes bad. Not if you’re asking something technical, like a dimension, that’ll be answered right away. I have quite a bit of experience questioning Japanese manufacturer staff and if there’s one thing I know, it’s that getting answers from them is an art. I was told the design team would be present and available for questions at the global press launch I attended in Kyoto, so I strategized a plan to actually get answers. But enough about me, and more about the new bike. I’m wondering that myself … although I’m almost thankful that it’s not the case and that the headlight doesn’t pop up, or I would have been in serious trouble. My guess is they would’ve preferred to see Suzuki put in the work and produce a true modern replica of the ‘81 or the ‘84, something with the authenticity of a Kawasaki Z900RS. the fact that it’s a re-skinned GSX-S1000 rather than the “all-new” Katana Suzuki’s promotional material talks about. My guess is that they too aren’t sure how to feel about the elephant in the room concerning that bike, i.e. See, my guess is the majority of those ogling this new Katana also have some sort of history with the original models. I can understand how to someone reading this little bit of personal motorcycle history I might seem biased toward the new Katana, but I believe that it instead makes me particularly qualified to judge. I never owned that Suzuki Katana and to this day, I get weak in the knees every time I see one. I didn’t keep the GS very long: after I got a taste of the fastest bikes of the time, I just couldn’t go back on anything slower and by age 18 I was riding a GSX-R1100. ![]() ![]() Which made me lust even more for the Katana as it was the same motorcycle with a different fairing. The idea of owning one never crossed my mind: considering my non-existent budget and the couple of years still separating me from a driver’s licence, the Katana was just as much out of reach as the Lambo Countach or the Porsche 959 (or Samantha Fox) on the posters pinned to the walls of my room.īut time went by, I got my licence and eventually ended up with a cheap but mint GS750ES as a first bike. It was pure admiration, however, as even the concept of riding motorcycles seemed far-fetched to my little brain. But something about that shape just hypnotized me. I was just a boy with a bicycle in the mid-eighties and, to be honest, without much of an interest for motorcycles. Not the original ‘81, which was before my time and still looks like an old bike to me today, but rather the ‘84, the one with the retractable headlight. ![]() The reason is simple: as a kid, the Katana was the bike I dreamed of. This time, though, has to be an exception. For MY 2020, Suzuki returns the model, but does it live up to the legendary 1980s original? We go to Japan for answers.ĭuring more than two decades reviewing motorcycles, I’ve never written a word about my personal rides. When it comes to motorcycling royalty, the Katana’s right up there.
